Is Reversing Early-Stage Alzheimer’s Disease Possible? A New Study Finds It May Be

Dr. Dale Bredesen spoke to Georgia Public Broadcasting’s Ellen Eldridge about his recently peer-reviewed and published study in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, “Precision Medicine Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease: Successful Pilot Project.”

Dr. Bredesen discussed how the team looked at over 150 different variables, including genetics as well as toxins, pathogens, and insulin resistance, to name a few, with an individualized approach applied to each participant to determine the causes of their cognitive decline and the best approach to treatment. Dr. Bredesen and Eldridge also discussed the current norms of treatment in the medical community and the need to shift from hyper-focus on monotherapies to address amyloid to a multifactorial, integrative approach.

This successful proof-of-concept clinical trial suggests that a larger, randomized, controlled clinical trial is warranted, which is set to begin recruiting in the next few months. The new trial will run for nine months at six sites: Miami, Florida; Cleveland, Ohio; Nashville, Tennessee; Sacramento, California; and two sites in the San Francisco Bay area of California.
