Healthnews’ Klaudia Balogh spoke with our Principal Research Scientist, Dr. Ram Rao, about Myokines, otherwise known as ‘hope molecules,’ in the article “Can ‘Hope Molecules’ Improve Mental Health? A Scientist Says ‘Yes’.”
Dr. Rao explained that myokines are a class of cytokines and growth factors released by the skeletal muscle cells that link muscles, movement, moods, emotions, and the brain. When produced during exercise, myokines may have benefits for your mental health, such as managing stress, assisting with depression, regulating metabolism, and improving cognition.
For additional information, see Dr. Rao’s blog, “Myokines: The Hope Molecule.”
