What is the Cq Cognitive Assessment?

The “Cq” Cognitive Quotient Assessment is a screening test developed by Dr. Bredesen with Apollo Health that provides a “snapshot” or insight into your cognitive health. The assessment is comprised of an AQ-6 Questionnaire, a subset of the AQ-21 Assessment Test, and an abbreviated CNS Vital Signs assessment. (CNS Vital Signs is a market leader in developing neurocognitive and behavioral evaluations.) You will be provided a Cq score upon completion to help you assess your current cognitive status. You can check your cognitive health today with the Cq Assessment. The Cq is also used as one of the cognitive evaluations in the PreCODE Program. Subscribers, once logged in, can access the Cq Assessment here.

How often will I see a practitioner on the PreCODE or ReCODE Program and how much will that cost?

For PreCODE: Physician visits are optional for those in the United States. Because we don’t offer international labs, international PreCODE participants must work with a trained practitioner to order labs and run a report.

For ReCODE: Because the reversal of cognitive decline can be complex and multifactorial, we require that you work with a ReCODE Trained Primary Protocol Practitioner (an M.D., D.O., or foreign equivalent), and highly encourage you to consider working with a ReCODE Trained Health Coach and other practitioners, as needed. While the first appointment is typically one to two hours, follow-up appointments are usually shorter. For the first year of ReCODE, a participant may visit their physician for a total of 5 to 6 (or more) hours, with less time required in subsequent years. Prices vary depending upon where in the country you reside but average around $400 per hour. You’re welcome to meet with your health coach and other members of your care team (such as a nutritionist) as often as needed.

How frequently will labs be run?

For PreCODE members, we recommend a follow-up set of labs to be repeated every six months.

For ReCODE members, a smaller panel of follow-up labs is ordered at the six-month point, with a full panel being run annually.

(Please note that ApoE4 status will only be run on the first set of labs.) Based on your labs or clinical presentation, your practitioner may determine that additional specialized labs are necessary. These labs are often run directly through your insurance. Check with your provider to be sure. Some may require that you file with your insurance provider directly.

I already know my APOE status. Can I skip this part of the baseline blood panel?

Yes, but be aware that errors sometimes (rarely) occur through 23andMe and other direct-to-consumer genetic testing companies. It may be a good idea to repeat your results. If you decide to opt out, there will be a $110 deduction from your lab testing price. Please call customer service at (800) 450-0805, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, or email lab@ahnphealth.com to make this arrangement.

What is the estimated cost of a baseline blood panel?

For PreCODE: $334
For ReCODE: $855

Does Insurance cover my labs?

Labs ordered through Apollo Health are not reimbursable by insurance. You may be able to get insurance to cover the cost of your labs if you order them through your practitioner. Depending upon your health insurance plan, you may be able to get insurance to cover the cost of your labs, but it may ultimately turn out to be more expensive. Among the benefits of ordering baseline labs directly through Apollo Health is that they will be automatically entered into your report, and our bundled prices as part of your membership are so low that they’re often less expensive than the cost of visiting your primary care provider, running labs through insurance, then hiring a RECODE Trained Health Coach or Practitioner to manually create a report. (Ask your insurance provider for an estimate to compare prices. Also, check with customer service at support@ahnphealth.com or call (800) 450-0805, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT to estimate the cost of manually creating a report.)  It’s also helpful to order your own labs and run your report before choosing a practitioner because once you know your specific contributors, you can choose the best practitioner for you based on your subtype(s).

If you prefer to try to get insurance coverage, you could try to find a provider to order labs through our Practitioner and Health Coach Locator Tool, or you could reach out to your primary care provider to order the baseline labs (see a list for PreCODE and ReCODE). Be aware that this often takes more time and can be more expensive.

Your ReCODE Trained Practitioner may also order additional labs based on your results and clinical presentation. These are often covered by health insurance, but ask your provider to be sure.

Is there any special equipment I need for the Bredesen Protocol®? What is the estimated cost for this equipment?

Yes, in order to be most effective, we recommend that you monitor your oxygen saturation ($59 and up) as well as glucose and ketones ($28.50 plus the cost of strips). You may also use other devices, such as Biosense,  KAATSU, photobiomodulation, etc. All of these are optional, and we’ve partnered with a variety of vendors to offer you discounted prices.

How much will supplements cost me per month?

The cost is variable and depends upon whether you’re using LifeSeasons’ supplements or your own options and may fluctuate based on specific personalized recommendations.

For PreCODE: LifeSeasons’ NeuroQ supplements are $69.99 per month. Some additional supplements may also be recommended based on your lab results.

For ReCODE: The cost of supplements can range from $150 to $450 per month. Based on your lab results, your ReCODE Report will offer two different supplement plans; one will feature LifeSeasons’ ReCODE supplements, developed by Dr. Bredesen, and the other will outline a comprehensive list of individual supplements that your ReCODE Trained Practitioner may adjust to meet your unique needs.

As a ReCODE Program participant, can I work with my current physician?

It’s a good idea to inform your current physician before starting the ReCODE Program. He or she also may be able to help you order your baseline labs. (See “Does insurance cover my labs?” above) However, because reversing cognitive decline is highly specialized and the program is complex and multifactorial in nature, we require that you work with a ReCODE-trained practitioner to help ensure your success.

How does the ReCODE and PreCODE Report and software work?

ReCODE and PreCODE Reports use a proprietary algorithm created by and regularly updated by Dr. Bredesen to generate a personalized report identifying the status of your brain health and possible signs of cognitive decline or its precursors. This report provides the information needed for you and your practitioners to decide upon the optimal treatment plan for either prevention or reversal if you are currently experiencing cognitive decline.

Can I get a ReCODE or PreCODE Report without signing up for ReCODE or PreCODE?

No. A ReCODE subscription (with a minimum annual subscription) is required to get a ReCODE Report, and a PreCODE subscription (with a minimum annual subscription) is required to get a PreCODE Report.

Am I responsible for completing all the blood and genetic tests?

Yes, the tests should all be completed if you want a “complete” assessment from the PreCODE and ReCODE Reports.

Do I need to finish all the blood tests in a certain amount of time?

No, all of the labs can be done at your convenience, but it is necessary to generate a report. It is best to get all testing done at once and have a report generated as quickly as possible to make sure all of the values are current.

How much of the medical, personal history, and assessment sections need to be completed to generate a report once the lab results for my first PreCODE or ReCODE Report are available?

For an accurate assessment, all of the medical questionnaires and cognitive assessments need to be completed.

How long does it take for my PreCODE or ReCODE Report to generate once my blood and genetic information are gathered?

The PreCODE and ReCODE Reports generate instantly once your lab results, medical questionnaires, and assessments are completed and entered into our database.

What tests are included in the PreCODE and ReCODE Report? Can I get a list of tests upfront before I pay?

Absolutely. The Baseline PreCODE Test Panel is here, and the Baseline ReCODE Test Panel is available here.

What is the CNS Vital Signs Assessment? Who needs to take it? Who administers it? What kind of exercises or tests can I expect?

The CNS Vital Signs Assessment is available for participants in the ReCODE Program. This self-administered assessment, which you will take as a part of your initial cognitive intake testing, includes a variety of exercises to measure and track multiple cognitive domains. Having a support partner present may be helpful to ensure instruction comprehension. We encourage you to repeat this test monthly, free of charge, to track your progress. After each free monthly assessment, you’ll receive a summary of your performance. For periodic comprehensive evaluations, you may purchase the full CNS Vital Signs medical report of any previous assessment for a fee of $30.

What is the importance of staying on the Bredesen Protocol once I have made a one-year commitment?

The personalized treatment recommendations from the protocol consist of dietary and lifestyle changes to influence metabolic and other markers that require long-term intervention to show improvement. These changes need to be continued to maintain progress for both prevention and reversal of cognitive decline.

Why do I need to be signed up through you and then also pay the practitioner?

Apollo Health offers the program, extensive support materials for you and your practitioner, and the software algorithm created and regularly updated by Dr. Bredesen that provides your report, which includes a comprehensive treatment plan.  Because of the specialized nature and complexity involved in reversing cognitive decline, a ReCODE Trained Practitioner is required to help those in the ReCODE Program implement and oversee your treatment. Those participating in the PreCODE Program for prevention may choose to see a Bredesen Trained Practitioner (physicians, health coaches, nutritionists, and more) as needed.

I want to work with more than one practitioner. Can I select more than one practitioner in the system?

We encourage you to work with a comprehensive care team, ideally consisting of a primary protocol physician, health coach, nutritionist, and more, as needed, so they can help you with the tools and resources you need for success.

Can I switch practitioners or health coaches?

Yes, you may add or change your practitioners or health coaches anytime. We have trained practitioners and health coaches worldwide to help you put together the team you need to assist with your brain health optimization. To remove an existing practitioner or coach, please either contact them directly, contact support@ahnphealth.com, or call (800) 450-0805, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT for assistance.

I live outside the United States; Can I sign up for the ReCODE or PreCODE annual membership program?

Yes, first contact customer support at info@ahnphealth.com or call (800) 450-0805, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT to ensure that there is a ReCODE-Trained Practitioner near their international home address or one that can provide telemedicine to provide follow-up services.

I have a friend or relative who lives outside of the country and would like to use PreCODE or ReCODE. Can we perform labs in the US and coordinate services internationally?

Yes, first contact customer support at info@ahnphealth.com or call (800) 450-0805, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT to ensure that there is a ReCODE Trained Practitioner near their international home address to provide follow-up services. Then, select either the PreCODE or ReCODE option to begin the process of setting up labs during their visit. After their lab work has been processed, medical questionnaires, and cognitive assessments completed, they can generate a report and select the previously identified ReCODE Trained Practitioner (if necessary) who can help them oversee their treatment.

What is the Cancellation policy for the ReCODE or PreCODE Program?

After you make the 12 subscription payments in the first year of the PreCODE or ReCODE programs, the subscription will continue to be charged on a month-to-month basis or billed annually, based on your original purchase. You may cancel your subscription at any time after the initial 12 months.

How do I update my payment method?

You may update your payment method by logging in and clicking on the “Update Payment” link located in the account dropdown from the top right-hand corner of the web page.

Can you reverse cognitive decline?

Yes, please refer to our recent studies in which the Bredesen Protocol reversed MCI (pre-Alzheimer’s) or early-stage dementia. In one trial, cognitive testing revealed that 84% improved. Objective evaluations with cognitive testing through CNS Vital signs demonstrated increased performance from the 38th to 63rd percentile — a 65.7% improvement.
